Newquay hmmm...
Arrived in Newquay yesterday evening: well in a suburb (about a mile to walk to the centre). We're based in Newquay for about 4 days, the reason being is spring bank holiday weekend/week (camp sites are generally busy), good bus service both ways along the coast, and because Colin needs rail link back to the real world.
Andy, Colins friend, recently celebrated a big birthday (happy belated birthday wishes Andy) and is treating a group of mates to a one day international cricket in Southampton: hotel and VIP treatment included. A good mate! Hasten to say, i'm motorhoming alone this weekend.
There was no coast walking today other than into Newquay. I walked with Colin to the train station: one plateform, one train, we did our brief encounter bit (for those to young to know Brief Encounter is about a married couple whose series of meetings whilst catching a train develops into an intense emotional love. It is terribly british, every one (other than Irene Handle) speaks with a plum in their mouths: made in 1945, screenplay by Noel Coward - its fantastic, you MUST watch it).
After i made sure Colin was on the train and gone... (i love him really), i walked into Newquay town centre: wow how disappointing. The coast line is magic, the beaches amazing and accessible - sadly the town is just dingy, cheap, rough and unloved, with investment it could be Cornwalls centre piece, its a opportunity missed!
Fitbit records: steps 16,494, 7 miles and 47 flights of stairs.
Morning spent doing laundry: we are proper motorhomers!
Photo's from today:
Cor the motorhome looks good! Is it going to be waiting for me when I finally arrive? Will it be 3 in a bed?!! or will I be in my teensy weensy tent, at the side?? x
ReplyDelete3 in a bed... colins dreams have just come true. It might be me in teensy weensy tent!
DeleteTotally agree about Newquay, I think we stayed about 3 hours when there, and that was 2 hours 59 minutes too long. Motor home does look lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Cornwall but devastated by poverty, poorest county sadly. Looking forward to seeing your surfing pictures Julie? Enjoy your weekend.
DeleteToo many second homes and vacant landlords.
DeleteDon't hold your breath for the surfing photo's... it'aint happening!
