Newquay to Crantock Beach
Having completed the Padstow to Newquay section the next stretch is Newquay to St Ives. To enable us to be on a good bus route (getting to start and finish points), this morning we changed campsites. It was a slow start, and during the journey we took in the delights of Morrisons. We evetually arrived at out new site about lunch time, we travelled the great distance of about 5miles.

We're on 'Trevella' Park: a big site with statics, glamping and touring. Its a really nice park (free Wifi) and on a good bus route.
Its been glorious weather so as not to waste the day we decided to complete the short route between Newquay and Crantock, this enables us to focus on some proper walking away from built up areas. I told Colin it would be a short circular walk: follow the coast path into Newquay and back to Crantock. Both there and back the Gannal (a tidal estuary) needs to be negotiated so after checking the tide times we set off.
The Gannal estuary is beautiful: feels quite risky walking across something usually covered by water. i'm sure people have been caught out and needed to paddle or wade across (otherwise its a 3 mile detour around the estuary).
Newquay's main beach (Fistral) was very busy with its fair share of middle aged men in wetsuites: i didn't have time to stop and take photo's. However i did see another side of Newquay today (the town wasn't busy), which was nice.
Crantock village is very quaint and charming: a bit further from the campsite than i had envisioned (about a mile: up hill!). We eventually made it back to the camp site at 7.45pm - not a quick or short walk.
Fitbit records: 28,361 steps, 12.4miles and 99 flights of stairs.
The foots doing well.
By the way Sarah confirmed that a 'dicklo' relates to the scarf around Colins neck. I should say that Sarah comes from a bohemian family, her childhood was mostly spent on the 'golden age of the canals' (BBC documentary her dad was in: a barge man): she spent time playing and not watching tv!

ReplyDeleteHey Mommy. You're right about the forecast: they just can't get it right. Currently its 'missling', forecast shows light cloud. Just as an update: Sarah's arriving on Monday, the reason being is a combination of cheaper fares and rain all day. Xxx
