Mullion Cove to the Lizard: what a day!
This post relates to Thursday.
What an eventful morning it was. We woke early to pack the tents before moving onto the Lizard. Faffing was limited which meant we had bags and car packed and was ready to leave by about 9.40'ish: result. Sat nav set ready to go but unfortunately the car wasn't, some how the battery was completely flat!
Approached every happy camper asking for jump leads, eventually it was the very last person to ask who had some. A passing electric company worker kindly leant his engine power to jump start the car!
30 minutes later we were on our way. Thankfully the rest of the journey was uneventful and we made it to the Lizard and 'Henry's' campsite.
When we arrived in Lizard we stopped to ask for directions to the campsite, the man, a camper himself said 'its weird place, but a nice nice weird'. He was right, Henry's is a unique, quirky, hippy heaven. It was established by Henry (of course) about 35 years ago. I reckon the concept was either based on ecstasy (the drug) or Henry saying to himself 'what would i like as a camper'. There are south facing terraces, most pitched made private with shrubs and plants, and picnic table. The structures such as the undercover fire pit
(Resembling an amphitheatre), many outdoor bar areas, wifi/meeting hut, unisex shower/toilet block etc... are made from reclaimed or donated material, including the sofa's. The site continues to evolve, i suspect many individuals have arrived for a long weekend and never left. While there i didn't experience any face painting, or hear any didgeridoo's but i'm sure they will be plentiful during the forthcoming music fesitival. Best thing: chocolate croissants. Worst thing 2 minute showers for 20p.
Now back to the walk.
By the time we set up the tents, caught the bus, bought lunch, ate lunch we didn't start walking until about 2'ish. After a steep climb out of Mullion Cove the path was mostly level (a few other ascents and descents along the way and more towards the end), wide and good terrain under foot. The views were amazing: again open cliff tops, sheer drops and crashing waves. The sky was blue and the sun was out, lucky for me there was a stiff breeze, a bit too much for 'Strong Sarah' and 'where are my key's Sue'. All in all fantastic views: great reward for easy walking.
We eventually made it back to Lizard at about 7.45'ish. Straight to the local for an okay pub meal, made better by good company: lots of laughing and merrymaking.
Fitbit records 33,529 steps, 14.71 miles (i walked 4 miles before leaving the original campsite!) and 175 flight of stairs.
Moment of the day:
Whilst walking back into Lizard we passed a life sized, stuffed gorilla being towed by a man on a ride on lawn mower (see photo).
Hi are you sure that was a stuffed gorilla as it reminded me of someone, can't bring to mind whom it was perhaps by tomorrow I will. Have you heard from Sue to say she arrived home safely.

Reminds me of The Hotel New Hampshire, except that was a stuffed bear, actually no it wasn't it was a woman in a bear costume!
