Goodbye Sarah!
This blog relates to Saturday.
Woke up early (6.30) it was raining (light drizzle), showered (7am), still raining. Listened an episode of the Count of Monte Cristo (CMC): very good (bbc iplayer). 8am still raining, listened to last episode of CMC.
9am still raining: waterproof on, pop to campsite shop for tea and croissants. Still raining.
Pack up tent (its raining). Finished packing: its stopped raining!!!
Caught bus to Charlestown for last brunch with Sarah who returns to Cambridge today.
Thank you Sarah for being my carer over the last 3 weeks. Sorry it hasn't panned out to plan: i'm just not a backpacking person, or a swimming fan. I struggle to carry my own excessive weight, without an extra 13k. I need to conserve my joints for the life time ahead of me. I have enjoyed camping, i love my little tent and bed roll. Thank you for you're company, you've kept me going and planned my days. We've seen some amazing views together, met some really nice people and ate some really nice food (i suspect that's why i haven't lost any weight!!!).
I waved Sarah off at St Austell station (see photo). Goodbye and thank you.
I spent a few hours in St Austell looking to buy trousers, t.shirt and knickers. The choice of shops were limited: new look, t k max and peacocks, so i'm unsure why it took so long. St. Awful really had no redeeming features which is such a shame because it has such a posh name.
The Pier House Hotel sits on the harbour used to film Poldark: sorry Pete despite looking i can't find Aidan Turner. The hotel is also pub and restaurant: its very nice and posh. Its connected to the neighbouring bar/restaurant (both owned by the same company. My room is located over this bar which has a live band every Saturday! In fact i think my room was just above the drummer, or he was drumming from my ensuite! Thankfully it was all over by 11pm, time to enjoy sleeping in a bed with a pillow... still awake at 2am (i think i missed my little tent).
Fitbit records 17,704 steps, 7.78 miles and 39 flights of stairs.
Colin and the motorhome join me again on Monday; we will carry on the path. Time is running out so i'm aiming to get beyond Plymouth (out of Cornwall) and/or over 315 miles, way short of the 630, but hey ho;

Photo's of Sarah:
We stayed outside St Awful and totally agree the name makes it sound really posh. Talking of posh we went to the Hemmingford Abbots Flower festival yesterday, had a great time noseying around all the big posh houses, had a cream tea, my best overheard comment whilst queueing for the tea was from a slightly rotund, middle aged lady,
ReplyDeleteGosh I ache from ballet last night
Images of the scene from Fantasia of the hippos dancing to the Sugar Plum Fairy came to mind.

Hi Sweet before you get to Plymouth you will go through Polperro, Looe, Seaton, and Downderry where we know well and a few more places which I can't call to mind at the moment. Its a bit up and down but lovely. Can't wait to see you again Lots of love MumXXX
ReplyDeleteWas Peter talking about you as the Sugar Plum Fairy. mum
ReplyDeleteHiya, not really thinking of Julie as the Sugar Plum Fairy, that was the woman behind me in the queue, I see (or hear) Julie more as The Queen of the Night, as she is very good at singing her aria. Like you we all can't wait to see her again, really missing her.
DeleteLove the jaunty photo of the train Julie....It was wonderful - thank you for allowing me to join your gig! Back to work, tight chest and the usual stresses but lovely to be back walking Cindy on the common. I guess Colin is with you now - love to you both and enjoy the rest!xx
